Director: Ram Gopal Verma
Cast: Sandeep Bharadwaj, Sachin Joshi, Usha Jadhav, Lisa Ray
Music: Jeet Ganguly, Sharib Sabri, Toshi Sabri
It is a story of the cruel sandalwood smuggler Veerappan. He killed more than 100 people (among which police officers have also included) and elephants brutally. It took 20 years to kill him by the
police. The story tells that how he gets killed by the police.
Critic’s Conclusion– After a long time break, Ram Gopal Verma comes back with “Veerappan.” Butunfortunately, he fails to return his past glory this time. He has made the movie in the hurry. There isnot any depth in the story which is required for this biopic. The subject of this movie demands intensity which he can’t show in it. The direction as well as the story looks very weak on the screen.
Veerappan’ past has shown a little by using voice-over. The director could show more on this smuggler’ past life. But he focuses on more on his encounter by the police. This track also loses the interest. Plans to catch and kill Veerappan don’t see any clarity to the audience.
The entire movie is not focused more on Veerappan. It revolves around that police officer which makes plans to chase Veerappan. The movie becomes weaker due to this fictional character. Veerappan gets less footage than that police officer. The audience gets disappointed as they have to watch Veerappan very less on the screen.
The direction is not leaving any impact. Same with the story that could become more intense and darker if the director had wished. But there are some scenes which have gotten a nice director’ finish. Chasing scenes between police and Veerappan, Climax etc., which have nicely shot. Veerappan kills many people and that part is shot very brutally and cruelly. Any sensitive viewer can’t see such scenes.
Talking about performance, Sandeep Bharadwaj as Veerappan acts brilliantly. Also, he looks like real Veerappan Thanks to the make-up artist Vikram Gaikwad. Usha Jadhav has done nice acting. Sachin Joshi as a mastermind police officer disappoints us. His expressionless face gives compliments to his bad acting. Lisa Ray is looking emotionless in the movie. The rest of the cast is ok.
Technically the movie is not impressive. The cinematography looks average, while the background music is very dangerous to your ears. The loud music is another weaker factor of the movie.
Overall, Veerappan is the bad comeback for Ram Gopal Verma!
