The Former Boxing Champion turned Boxing Coach of Girl’s Boxing association from Hissar Adi Tomar (R.Madhavan) is a mighty, aggressive, blatant, and stubborn coach who doesn’t scare to tell the truth. He always fights with the head coach Dev Khatri (Zakir Hussain). Dev accused Adi in the case of sexual harassment and transferred him to Chennai as a senior coach. Adi’s dream is becoming World Champion, but he can’t achieve it due to the dirty politics in the Boxing. In Chennai, He finds the real boxing talent in Madhi (Ritika Singh) who is a fisherwoman and helps her sister Lux (Mumtaz Sorcar) in boxing who is also a boxer. Adi gives training to her and her sister and wants Madhi to win that World Championship. Will he become successful to achieve his dream? Will Madhi win the world boxing championship? To know answers, you have to watch “Saala Khadoos”!

Well, the movie is a mixture of several Hindi Sports movies such as “Chak De India”, “Mary Kom”,”Bhaag Milkha Bhaag” etc. Even some dialogues have inspired from those movies. The story is not new. The underdog turned into a winner theme is overused in many Hindi Sports movies and same theme has used in this movie. So here the story is weak.

Despite the weak story, the script is gripping and interesting. Director has given the different treatment to Boxing.  She tries successfully to show different issues related to sports such as dirty politics and corruption in sports, women players in Boxing etc.  The chemistry between Adi and Madhi as the teacher-student duo is amazing. The love angle between them is forced but it feels unbelievable. The first half becomes engaging while the second half becomes a little bit dragging due to some unnecessary scenes. Nevertheless, the climax is the edge of the seat.

There are such flaws in the movie too. The script is predictable. The audience will already know that what will happen in the next scene. The main interesting thing about the movie is performances of the main cast. R.Madhavan is perfect as a blatant, mighty coach. His performance is looking real not only emotionally but also physically.  Ritika Singh gives the tough competition to him in the acting. She looks natural. She gives a knockout punch performance. She is a real boxer so her boxing scenes are looking authentic. In supporting roles, Naseer, Zakir Hussain, Kali Venkat, Mumtaz Sorcar are commendable in their performances.

The movie has a fast pace due to Sathish Surya’s editing. Dialogues are crispier. Though Songs are refreshing they disturb the narrative. The cinematography is beautiful and real.

In short, watch the movie for knockout performances for R.Madhvan and Ritika Singh!
