Padmavat (2018) Story:

The story is based on ‘Padmavat’ written by a Sufi poet Malik Muhammad Jayasi in 1540.  The epic is a saga of the brave Rajput queen Rani Padmavati.  Chittorgarh’s King Maharawal Ratan Singh (Shahid Kapoor) and Singhal’s princess Padmavati (Deepika Padukone) love each other.  Queen Padmavati is not only a beautiful but also a courageous queen. She is an expert in archery.  Maharawal Ratan Singh marries her and brings her to Chittorgarh.   His Rajguru, Raghav Chetan gets thrown out from Chittorgarh, by Ratan Singh.  Raghav meets Alauddin Khilji (Ranveer Singh) in Delhi. He tells Khilji about Queen Padmavati’s beauty. Khilji attracts towards Padmavati and wants to have her at any cost. He decides to attack Chittorgarh. He makes Mararawal Ratan Singh captive and brings him to Delhi.  Queen Padmavati commits Jauhar with women of Chittorgarh to save from surrendering to Alauddin Khilji.  Padmavat is a story of the dignity and valor of the Rajput Community.

Plus Points:

First thing first, Sanjay Leela Bhansali gives a magnificent experience by his every movie. Be it set designing, cinematography, or music.  Padmavat proves it once again!  Each frame has looked beautiful and eye-catching.

You will be happy by watching each visual stunning frame. Each scene is spectacular. For instance, look at the entry scene of Queen Padmavati.  Alauddin’s Darbar is the visual treat in the movie.

Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s direction is gripping. He has shown the Rajput community’s honor and pride perfectly in the movie. The story has depth.  The script is flawless. All scenes have presented a right flaw.

Dialogues are catchy.  Editing is on the point.  Art Direction and Costume Designing are amazing.

Talking about performances, Deepika Padukone looks beautiful and brave as a Queen Padmavati. She has shown that how Queen Padmavati stands up for her respect and dignity as a Rajput Queen.  On the other hand, Shahid Kapoor looks convincing as a King Maharawal Ratan Singh.  He shows the splendor of the Rajput community in the movie.  He suits as a loving husband as well as a real fighter in the movie.

Ranveer Singh is a major attraction of the movie.  He is amazing as a Muslim ruler. His character is an epitome of cruelty, greediness, craziness, lust, and cunningness.  He shows Khilji’s greed in his eyes and body language very well. He shows hunger for small things. Ranveer Singh will win all awards of this year for his negative character, for sure!

Jim Sarbh, Aditi Rao Hydari, Raza Murad were also brilliant in their characters.

The songs are memorable.  The cinematography is scenic. The background music is commendable.

Padmavat’s high point is its climax. You will get goosebumps by watching it!

Despite war scenes, there has not seen any visible violence in these scenes. Everything has shown on a mental level.

Minus Points:

The movie loses its pace before the second half.

Is This Movie Worth to Watch?

Yes.  Sanjay Leela Bhansali has given a magnum opus movie with Padmavat.  Go, watch it!
