Director: Prakash Jha
Story: Prakash Jha
Cast: Priyanka Chopra, Prakash Jha, Manav Kaul, Ninad Kamat, Murli Sharma, Rahul Bhatt
Abha Mathur (Priyanka Chopra) appoints as SP of Bankipur District. In Bankipur, there are two goons turned Politicians Babloo Pandey (Manav Kaul), and Dablu Pandey (Ninad Kamat) who rule on the village. Even Police becomes their servants. There is the corrupt police officer B.N.Singh (Prakash Jha). Abha believes in to punish lawbreakers by staying under the law. She is an Honest and dutiful Police Officer. How does Abha punish Pandey Brothers? How does she bring the law in that village? Will B.N.Singh change and help her to her mission? To know answers, you have to watch “ Jai Gangajal .”
Well, Director Prakash Jha brings same old formula which we have seen in his previous movies such Gangajal (2003), Apharan (2005), Raajneeti (2010), Aarakshan (2011), Satyagraha (2013) etc. There is nothing new in the story of this movie. You can see same “Corrupt law breakers Politicians vs. Police” drama in the movie. But there is an only difference in the movie that this time Lady Police Officer plays a
main protagonist instead of the male leading hero. In Gangajal, there has shown as throwing acid in criminal’ eyes while here they show as hanging criminals in the open area. This drama becomes boring and uninteresting here due to such similarities in both movies.
However, filmmakers have tried to show some real life incidents here such as farmers’ suicides, Agricultural lands grabbing by corporate plants
and politicians, Delhi Rape Case etc.
The movie looks engaging in the first half, but the second half is overstretched and dragged. Also, there are such loopholes in the movie. How does B.N.Singh change suddenly in one night? Villagers of Bankipur behave strangely as at one point they fear by politicians and criminals, at another point they kill them mercilessly by hanging them. The director tries to say that if our police department becomes tough and strong against the corrupt system, they can change this environment in a better way.
However, the movie can’t make much impact on the viewers. Priyanka Chopra is impressive in her performance as a Tough Police Officer. She was efficient in actions scenes too. Unfortunately, she has overshadowed by none other than Prakash Jha who is doing debut as an actor. His part has extended more than hers. It seems Priyanka is doing the guest appearance in the movie. Nevertheless, Prakash Jha has done a splendid job. Manav Kaul, Ninad Kamat, and Murli Sharma are ok. Rahul Bhat is wasted here.
The dialogues and punches are powerful. The music is average so the cinematography. Editing should be tight as the movie is too long. The Background Music is not bad.
Overall, it is a one-time watch movie!
