“Airlift” is a story based upon real life incidents which happened in Kuwait in 1990 during Iraq-Kuwait War. Ranjit Katyal (Akshay Kumar) is a Kuwait-based Indian Businessman who forgets his Indian roots and considers himself as a Kuwaiti. He lives happily in Kuwait with his Wife Amrita (Nimrat Kaur) and a little daughter. When Iraq Invades Kuwait in 1990, Ranjit wants to get out from Kuwait to India with his family. But when he sees 1, 70,000 Indians refugees trapped in the war zone, he helps in evacuation of those Indians with the help of Indian Government and Air India Pilots. Airlift narrated the struggle of Ranjit in the mass evacuation happened during Iraq-Kuwait War.

Airlift is a story inspired by the real-life incidents which happened during the Iraq-Kuwait war in 1990. Air India had evacuated 1, 70,000 Indians with the help of 488 flights in 59 days due to two real life heroes-Mathews and Vedi. This has been a world record which has registered in the Guinness Book of World Records.  The Director Raja Krishna Menon has reminded that lost page of history and he asks us to remember to those unsung heroes. He has made a realistic movie with fictional characters which is based on a true life story. He has made a brilliant, simple and touching movie with patriotism values in a
unique way. It was a courageous move made by the director as he makes a movie on the grand historical chapter which has not told ever. He becomes successful by bringing this fabulous story on the silver screen!  The script is also crispy.

The director has brought accurate detailing by showing 90’s era in the movie. He is perfect showing that era in such aspects like as Young Sachin Tendulkar, “Ek Do Teen” song from “Tezaab,” Telephones, 90’s TV Shows,90’s Doordarshan’s  Hindi News Bulletin,90’s Kuwait etc. There has been said many unsaid things in the movie about our political condition of that era. “Airlift” is a story of bravery, patriotism, and humanity. It states that we can solve any difficult situation raised in our country with understanding and dignity. So that no any country will stop us by achieving our goals towards our nation.

The movie has some emotional scenes. Also, it has such the edge of the seat scenes. The climax will make your eyes teary and touch your heart.  What’s more, the climax will arise a true patriot hidden in your heart, for sure!

The movie drags somewhere in the first half during the pre-interval. The second half becomes interesting and gripping. The editing should be tighter.

Talking about performances, it is the best performance of Akshay Kumar in his career. He proves that he can do intense roles better too. His transformation from a selfish, money minded businessman to a sensitive, emotional human being is amazing. He does natural acting. He has come from his comfort zone and done an amazing job as living as Ranjit Katyal!  Nimrat Kaur is also perfect in her role. Also, she looks beautiful on the screen. There is a special mention to Prakash Belawadi who plays the role of annoying Mr. George with conviction.  Innamulhaq as an Iraqi Commander wins our hearts by his language and body language. Also, Kumud Mishra and Purab Kohli are best in their roles.

The Songs are beautiful and soulful, but they interrupt the narrative. Cinematography and art direction are other helping factors in the movie.

All in All, It is a must watch movie for every Indian!
